# A specialty for untidy sensations

> About Specialized Telemed — Specialized Telemed is an editorial research site about gut sensations and hormone signals, with a curious reader behind it and no medical services.

**About**

The word gut can gather an awful lot of different troubles. Sorting out the sensations appeals to me.

## Gut sensations

An ordinary word made troublesome by an experiment is the sort of irritation I enjoy. Comfort sounded straightforward until the [rat sensitivity experiment](https://doi.org/10.2147/jep.s249747) put a colorectal response beside a paw withdrawal. Feeling better became more complicated again when [ferrets lost less weight without an improvement in vomiting](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39043357/).

Those are the sorts of findings that make a small specialty worthwhile to me. The subject is recognisable, but its experimental pieces refuse to move in formation. That disagreement seems a fair subject for a whole small site.

The name Specialized Telemed suggests focus across a distance. Here, the distance is between an appealing account of a molecule and the very particular bodies and measurements in the published research. A conclusion that skips that interesting middle exhausts my patience.

## Editorial purpose

Specialized Telemed names this editorial research site, not a healthcare business. There is no medical credential behind these pages; this is a reader’s response to published research. No medical care, prescriptions, merchandise, deliveries or appointments are available here.

Nothing on these pages is medical advice. A person’s symptoms and treatment decisions require attention to their own circumstances; an essay about a rat response cannot perform that work. The [contact page](/contact) also explains the limits of correspondence here.

## The unsuccessful meal endpoint

The [adult bowel-resection trial](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25331030/) missed its primary endpoint. My sympathy lies with its practical ambition. There is no need to make the result more favourable in order to enjoy how the research arrived there.

That combination—interest in the question and dissatisfaction with the answer—feels like a useful place to stay. The [reading list](/references) has company for both moods. My opinions about an experiment’s appeal carry much less weight than the observations it actually reports.

At Specialized Telemed I untangle published research about the gut and hormone signals; this is an editorial site, not a healthcare business, and none of it is medical advice.
